I just talked to one of my favorite blueberry farmers John Macomber in Coventry. His Earliblue highbush variety is ripe and the berries are just waiting for you in the patch.

Maybe.

Macomber is on baby watch. His daughter is expecting her third child any minute. He'll be busy for a few days babysitting for her other children when she heads off to the hospital. So call first or no blueberries for you; and you would have wasted a trip. The blueberry hotline is (401) 397-5079.

You'll find Macomber's Blueberry Farm at 141 Old Rice City Rd. in Coventry.

Meanwhile, check out Macomber's Facebook page for photos of the blue beauties.

The season goes into August as different varieties of highbush blueberries ripen at different times.

Right now here at the Projo we are compiling the list of pick-your-own blueberry farms and some recipes to appear in the food section and online Wednesday, July 13.
