It's true. Ken Casey of the Dropkick Murphys has shipped down to Providence.

His new Irish pub, The Whiskey Republic is on the Providence Waterfront (where the Fish Company used to be) and has set its grand opening for Tuesday, March 15 with a $15 benefit that features Against Me! and Off With Their Heads.

The pub, at 515 South Water St., was renovated to add a stage, hi def televisions and a kitchen.

The charity fundraiser starts at 6 p.m. Proceeds from the $15 ticket will benefit the Claddagh Fund, the Dropkick Murphys charity. Tickets to the grand opening will be available at the door; and a limited number are available for purchase on the Eventbrite web site

Prior to the grand opening, The Whiskey Republic will host an invitation-only, VIP reception on Monday, March 14 from 6-8 p.m. with a performance by the Dropkick Murphys. The Whiskey Republic will raffle off a pair of tickets to this private event. Fans can enter to win by signing up for The Whiskey Republic newsletter.

Following the reception, the Dropkick Murphys will perform again for guest who obtained tickets though partnerships with 95.5 WBRU and Newbury Comics.

The Whiskey Republic will be open seven days a week beginning on March 15th.

"The Whiskey Republic will not be just a restaurant, a bar, or a club," Casey said. "The Whiskey Republic will serve as a new destination for those seeking good music, a place to watch the big game and a great meal."

It is co-owned by Brian O'Donnell and the team behind the Whiskey Republic is established in Boston with McGreevy's 3rd Base Saloon and Revolution Rock Bar.
