Stone House, the recently re-opened historic waterfront resort in Little Compton, opened its Tap Room 1854, a casual eatery.

With a nostalgic nod to the Prohibition speakeasy the cellar was once rumored to be, Tap Room 1854 offers a menu of comfort food offerings and fine wines.

I hear nothing but good things from friends who've given it a try.

Menu highlights include: Sakonnet Point clam chowder with an herb biscuit; white shrimp, lobster & mushroom risotto; hand-cut tagliatelle with roasted eggplant meatballs; and tiramisu creme brulee with maple sugar and seasonal berries.images.jpg

It opens for dinner only from 5-10 p.m. through September 7. Beginning Tuesday, September 8, the kitchen will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Reservations are not required.
