Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse has been in town this week for the 7th annual Emeril Lagasse Golf Classic to support scholarships at his alma mater, Johnson & Wales University (JWU).

More than 100 golfers, many representing national corporate sponsors, joined Lagasse for a round of 18 holes at Newport Country Club. It was closed to the public with proeeds to benefit the Emeril Lagasse Endowed Scholarship Fund at JWU.

This year, four undergraduate students will each receive $10,000 toward their education at JWU.

Chef de Cuisine Jodi Bernhard and the culinary staff at Belle Mer, Newport, visited with Lagasse last night at the kick-off event. Guests were served locally grown produce and seafood from local waters and dishes included a mini New England Clambake and seared Chatham Cod with Lemon Cream.
