Buzzards Bay Brewing announced this morning that they are ending production of their namesake "Buzzards Bay" brews after 11 years, said owner/brewer Bill Russell. But the Brewery in Westport will not shut down by any means. Russell will be producing Pretty Things, Cisco and other contracted brews. He'll also continue to make his Just Beer, American style brews that are available locally. Visitors can drop by the 540 acre farm to try one of the new brews: Moby D, CIA and John Beere. So the story is just that the Buzzards Bay brew will go away. They made 5000 barrels of beer in 2002 but expect to sell only 100 barrels in the next 7 months, Russell said. The Just Beer brews can be found at several locally owned restaurants and pubs including New Bedford's the Pour Farm, Antonio's, Rose Alley, Marion's the Wave and Westport's the Bayside and Bittersweet. For more info visit Russell's Web sites Just Beer or Buzzards Brew. The brewery is at 98 Horseneck Rd., Westport, MA. 508-636-2288

This is very disappointing. They made really good beer, the lager in particular. And their black-and-white buzzard logo was the perfect antidote to the sad Black Dog stickers anointing the cars of all the Martha's Vineyard wannabes.
