Supervalu Inc. (SVU:NYSE), the parent company of Shaw's Supermarkets, on Tuesday recalled one of its frozen-food products because it may be contaminated with bacteria.

The Culinary Circle macaroni-and-cheese product may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, a common form of bacteria that also is among the most-virulent foodborne agents, the company said. It can cause meningitis, encephalitis and septicemia, among other diseases. The Culinary Circle product comes in 38-ounce packages and were sold at all Supervalu supermarket divisions.

The possible contamination was found during routine testing at a manufacturing plant, Supervalu said.

Customers who have purchased the product can return it to any Shaw's store for a full refund or exchange.
