The 23rd annual Bastille Day Race at Pot au Feu is set for noon on Tuesday, July 14 on Custom House Street in Providence.

Each year, the race pits waiters and waitresses from local restaurants in a competition of skill and speed. This tradition comes from Paris and is imitated in cities around the world.

The race benefits the Providence Journal Summertime Fund with each participating restaurant donating a $25 registration fee to the fund.

So what is the prize? It's an overnight stay at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Providence including parking and breakfast, $150 in spending money and gift certificates to local restaurants.

For more information or to register for the race, contact Dale West at (401) 273-8953 or email events@federalreserveri.com
