As great as it is to support your local restaurants, I never understand why people go out for breakfast on the weekends. There is nothing I love more than the smell of French toast wafting in the morning air. Cinnamon, vanilla and butter are a heavenly combination. What smells as sweet as scrambled eggs?
These are easy things to do. Be bold!
Because there is something so nice about sitting at your kitchen table with the Sunday newspaper and a homemade breakfast, you want to try this.
For French toast, take a loaf of bread (I like an Italian loaf but any kind thick cut will do). Cut 6-8 slices.
Whisk four eggs, half a cup of milk, half a teaspoon of cinnamon and a teaspoon of vanilla together. Melt a tablespoon of butter in fry pan. Dip the bread slices into the mixture and then put in the pan. Fry for a few minutes over medium low heat then flip and cook the other side. Divide on two plates, sprinkle powdered sugar on top and serve with warm maple syrup. Serves two.
For scrambled eggs, whisk six eggs until the eggs and whites are just blended. Add salt and pepper to taste. Heat a fry pan. Melt two tablespoons of butter in the pan. When it foams, add the eggs.Let set for two minutes and then, using a soft spatula, swirl them around until done. Promise me you know what that looks like. Serve with Tabasco sauce if you dare.
The perfect easy breakfast. Make it for someone you love and you'll have their heart.
