A brand of bean sprouts that was distributed in Massachusetts, Connecticut and several other states is being recalled, according to The Associated Press.

Chang Farm is recalling soy bean sprouts with the sell-by date of Friday because the product might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the company.

The recalled products are packaged in 10-pound bulk bags and 12-ounce retail plastic bags, labeled under the Chang Farm brand as soy sprouts. The products were also distributed to retail stores and wholesalers throughout New York and New Jersey. For more information, consumers can call 413-222-5519.
